This is another post from Greg, Julie's husband.
We've heard nothing directly from Julie since a quick email the evening of Thursday, July 14, and her blog posts from July 15 (which were actually posted yesterday).
However, I did hear yesterday from Brian Glass, a NASA scientist who will be going up to Devon Island later. He's been talking on the satellite phone with Sarah Thompson, who is at the Haughton Crater base camp with Julie.
Apparently there's something of a heat wave going on there -- 70 degrees! I don't know if Julie even packed anything that will be comfortable in that heat. If she comes home with the arms cut off her sweatshirts, we'll know why. They even have mosquitoes!
Flights to Devon Island have been in short supply, so food is, too, with most of it languishing in Resolute. No eggs, no milk ... sounds like a vegan paradise, but I'm told that she's having to be very creative to keep everyone there fed.
So, other than being a little frazzled, our intrepid traveler is doing well!
They're having trouble establishing a connection with the Anik B satellite, which explains the dearth of communications. Brian says that they may have to rent a BGAN device on short notice, if they can't get the equipment that's on site up and running.
More news when we have it!
