Just another manic Monday

Day 4, July 18

I forget to pull out the thing on my alarm clock and oversleep by 20 minutes.  No Problem breakfast was prepped and all I had to do was make pancakes.

Can't get this picture to turn
I get a SHOWER!  Yippy this shower is much nicer than I expected.

I scramble trying to find a dessert that doesn’t take eggs or milk and that we have all the other ingredients too.  Eagle Brand Magic bars with oreo cookies crumbs instead of graham crackers and mixed chopped nut.

Let’s talk about Bears. When camp is closed every year there is usually some damage done by bears. In the early years ( the camp is 15 years old), supplies were stored in heavy duty coolers that were stacked on top of each other and covered in tarps. Some of the coolers got broken into and many got damaged (claw and bite marks) .  John shows me two big patches in the mess tent where a bear fell through the roof. There was no food in the tent at the time but the bear just tore things up trying to get out. In 2007 the food got raided by a bear and he ate everything including things not meant for bears. According to Anna-Lisa that year all season the team where finding bear scat and vomit all around the camp. Apparently he would eat something go be sick but come back and eat again.

Bears in camp while humans are here is very rare. It has only happened once and that was when they were closing camp. The last four people were literally locking the front door when a juvenile bear only about 5 feet just wandered through.  That’s the only time they talk about anyway. Last night, while out on a traverse, Ben found bear tracks. They were about 10 Km from camp. Relatively fresh made within the last ten days.

Was just told that the inter net won’t work. They are scrambling find a plan B.  Suddenly I’m missing home.

Nap time my first since I left California.
